The perfect mountain home design is the one that fits your lifestyle, and that often means the home fits the people you love. As Park City, Utah home builders, many of our Tall Pines Construction clients want to maximize their space so they can comfortably accommodate kids, grandkids, and friends. We love working with clients to develop custom bedroom ideas, and many of our mountain modern homes now include bunk rooms because they sleep multiple people, are fun for sleepovers, and make the most of square footage. Built-in bunk beds aren’t just practical; they can be beautiful too.

Craftsmanship that Elevates a Mountain Home
Custom-built homes are more than just showpieces. Of course, you want your custom mountain modern home to be beautiful, but it should be functional too. The key to achieving both is in the craftsmanship. It’s the details that make a custom-built home stand out. This includes meticulous trim work (we love working with (@awesometrimwork), integrated storage solutions, durable materials that stay beautiful through constant use, and tailored architectural details.
Tall Pines Construction has been one of the top custom home builders in Park City for more than 20 years because we know what our clients want and consistently deliver the homes of their dreams. We work with each client to develop dream kitchens, custom bedroom ideas, perfect gathering spaces, and unique features down to the smallest details. We then work with the best tradespeople to ensure our homes are built with the highest quality of craftsmanship.
Designing Bunk Rooms for Luxury Mountain Living
Bunk rooms are a custom bedroom idea we’re seeing more and more in the mountain modern bedrooms we design. Whether you want a ski home or a mountain retreat for family and friends, bunk rooms maximize square footage and create a fun gathering space. Don’t be fooled by the name, though—today’s bunk rooms are nothing like the utilitarian rooms of the past.
Our favorite mountain-style bedroom bunk rooms include extra storage, integrated lighting, and some fun touches. The style and inclusions vary depending on our clients’ tastes and needs. Here are a few things to consider when designing a bunk room:
1. Built-in vs. Freestanding Bunk Beds
While built-in bunk beds give a more polished look and allow for more customization, freestanding bunk beds are easier to change out if you decide to repurpose the room down the road.

2. Number of Beds
How many people do you want to accommodate? Will the bunk room mostly be used by kids and teenagers? Families? Adults? If the crowd is a bit younger, you can plan on packing more people in. If you mainly plan on having adults sleep in the room, you may want to opt for fewer beds. Trundle beds under the standard bunks can add even more sleeping space.

3. Size of Beds
Twin beds are great for younger kids, but if you plan on having teens or adults sleep in the bunk room, you may want to consider using twin XL mattresses on the top bunks and full- or queen-size beds on the bottom bunks.
4. Safety
Think about whether you want ladders or stairs to the top bunks and how you want to incorporate guard rails to keep little guests safe while sleeping high up.
5. Extra Features
There are lots of extra features you can include in your bunk room. Amenities like individual lights and switches, TVs, privacy curtains, shelves or drawers, outlets, and charging plugs can give your guests a little personal space and privacy and really drive home the modern mountain luxury feel of the room.
